This year we achieved yet another milestone in the long history of the Birmingham Boys’ and Girls’ Union when we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the year in which Woodlands Camp became our new headquarters. A considerable amount of refurbishment, innovation and improvement has taken place since those early days, more especially over the last 12 years. However, we still remain true to the original ideals of our founder Canon Carnegie by providing education, enjoyment and challenges in an outdoor environment to children from all walks of life but particularly the disadvantaged and those with special needs. We feel that our charity now operates a fully instructional/residential activity centre that can hold its own with any of its peers in the West Midlands.
We celebrated this anniversary on the 15th of April this year when the then Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Randal Brew OBE opened the extended high ropes course and unveiled the board listing all the contributors to the Centenary Appeal Fund.
